Our goal is to ensure that every striving young adult has access to the guidance, resources, support, mentors and opportunities necessary to take charge of their education, career, life, and dreams.

Rise Together

Rise Together is a nonprofit, outcome-driven team mentoring program that connects University of Virginia (UVA) students with first-generation and low-income K-12 youth in the Commonwealth. Rise Together mentoring teams provide weekly targeted academic support, social-emotional learning, workforce and college readiness, and service learning opportunities designed to lessen barriers to postsecondary attainment, support teachers, and build novel collaborative relationships between UVA and the community.

Keys to College

Rise Together has created programming that fully engages students remotely and has yielded one hundred percent freshman acceptance rate into premier universities across the nation. Now it is time to make Rise Together’s innovative college search and application guidance available to parents and educators. Keys to College is a comprehensive program that offers a step-by-step-curriculum, series of podcasts, instructive college student testimonials, and library of resources that demystify the daunting college and financial aid search process for families.

Hoos Rise Together 

Hoos Rise Together is a 12-week virtual mentoring initiative that provides first-generation low-income high school seniors around the country with virtual mentorship, college readiness support, and college, scholarship and financial aid guidance. The program is designed to provide UVA student mentors with weekly intensive trainings and professional development needed effectively guide students towards their postsecondary aspirations.

Rise Together-Boston

Through Rise Together’s partnership with Northeastern University and Charlestown High School in Boston, a dynamic team of Northeastern University undergraduates and Torch Scholars lead low-income seniors through all aspects of their college search, application and admission process.  Staggering student success and program outcomes are a result of the collaborative efforts of Josette Tenues, Charlestown High School Guidance Counselor, and Jennifer Schoen, Director of Opportunity Scholarships and Outreach Programs at Northeastern University. College Guidance

The Rise Together College Guidance Program is a two-pronged approach designed to guide 9-12th grade students from high school to college. The first component is an intensive individual college guidance program focusing on course selection, standardized test preparation, college search, and application support. The second component is engaging Rise Together Group Seminars and service learning projects, which allow students to work collaboratively to develop a growth mindset, personal determination, and academic/personal confidence.

University of Virginia students host day of service for first generation college students

“Some groups are doing International Food Day and diversity focus, while other groups are helping with academics,” Rise Together Co-Director Bryan Christ said. “The students planned the entire thing themselves, they’re the ones who contacted teachers, they lead the activities.”

CHS AVID students give back during service day

A group of students in AVID at Charlottesville High School dedicated their Friday to give back to students in elementary school. The students are part of Rise Together, a nonprofit that mentors AVID students to prepare them for life beyond their high school graduation.
